An increasing number of Britons are providing for both their parents and their own children but have been urged not to neglect their own retirement saving efforts.
Prudential reports that there are now more than 80,000 families who have three generations living under the same roof as a result of the difficulties being faced by consumers of all ages and particularly pensioners.
Close to 4.6 million people are now thought to have at least one elderly parent living with them but the firm behind the research is keen to see those in the "middle generation" maintain their efforts in saving for retirement.
"While it may not always seem like a priority, we urge people not to lose sight of the importance of saving for their retirement today, no matter how little this might be," said Gary Shaughnessey, Prudential's managing director for life and pensions.
Financial pressures have seen thousands of retired Britons relocate to a less expensive part of the country in recent years, according to a recent report from Saga.
