F&C: Need for 'comprehensible' investments

F&C Asset Management has issued a response to the annual report by the Centre for Research in Employment and Technology in Europe (Create) by calling for increased understanding in the pensions market.

The group has agreed with Create in praising asset managers that engage with the schemes and financial advisers in order to better suit pension plans to consumers.

F&C Asset Management also noted the reference to hedge funds in Create's report, citing the example of Warwickshire County Council putting up for tender £100 million in real estate and hedge funds for its pension fund as evidence of their increasing popularity.

Simon Males, director for institutional funds the company, said: "Fund managers must deliver investment solutions that are not only comprehensive, but also comprehensible to schemes' trustees and members alike.

"Much misunderstanding in the market is due to a lack of clarity."
