Free care 'only available for the most needy'
The need for consumers to prepare adequately for retirement has been highlighted today by a new report from the Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI).
Healthcare provider Bupa has welcomed the data from the commission, which suggests that lack of council funding means that in many areas only the most vulnerable are likely to get support with "basic tasks".
These include washing, home visits from care workers and meals on wheels.
Dr Clive Bowman, medical director at Bupa Care Services, comments: "Older people's care suffers from chronic under-funding across the board and the Government must address this in the Green Paper it's planning this year."
Those considering putting funds aside for their pensions might also like to heed observations from Alliance Trust made in recent days.
Figures from the organisation's research centre identify inflation as a pressure weighing more heavily on the elderly than on other groups.
This is due to the high proportion of their monthly budget spent on food by the demographic - meaning that inflation for retired people is increasing faster than the government's headline rate.
