Men are best savers for retirement, study shows
Research released today by Scottish Widows has discovered that men in the UK are putting more money away for their retirement years than women.
It was found that while 54 per cent of males are making adequate savings for later in life, 41 per cent of females are doing the same.
The report suggested that a gender-based "pension gap" is becoming apparent, with 35 per cent of women having no pension scheme compared to 22 per cent of their male counterparts.
Ian Naismith, head of pensions market development at Scottish Widows, said a bolder approach is needed by women wanting to invest for their retirement.
"Women need to realise that it's up to them to put plans in place for funding their retirement," he added.
In related news, research published this week by Abbey Savings found a range of activities and leisure pursuits on the to-do list of retirees.
More than four in ten are planning a trip across the globe after they stop working, while a quarter said they would like to take up a sport.
