Most Brits don't know about 'guaranteed investments'
A majority of people in the UK are unaware of the existence of equity-based investment products that are guaranteed against dramatic falls in the value of stocks and shares, according to recent research.
Figures from Abbey suggest that around 56 per cent of people would be more inclined to make stock-based investments if they could gain greater security with regards their long-term prospects.
"Guaranteed investments offer the potential for higher returns based on stock market growth, but also provide capital protection against a further market downturn," said Reza Attar-Zadeh, director of savings and investments at Abbey.
Many consumers use stock assets as way of boosting their efforts to save for retirement and according to Abbey around 6.6 million Britons are considering making such an investment in light of the recent market volatility.
Meanwhile, a number of banking groups have been urging people saving for retirement around the UK to take full advantage of their tax-free investment allowances as the end of the tax-year approaches.
