NAPF highlights lack of awareness over workplace pensions
The National Association of Pension Funds (NAPF) has conducted a study that it claims has highlighted the lack of awareness across the country of the benefits of workplace pension schemes.
Around 22 per cent of the people polled by the NAPF said they did not realise that their employer would make a contribution to their workplace pension scheme if they were involved in it.
In addition, almost 29 per cent of those surveyed recently indicated that they were not aware of the tax relief advantages that can be leveraged by people saving fro retirement via an occupational pension.
"Through regular and jargon-free communication, employers and the pensions sector have the opportunity to re-emphasise the benefits of workplace pensions," said NAPF director of policy Nigel Peaple.
According to the NAPF, its members provide pensions for a total of almost ten million pre-retired people and five million others who have already ended their working lives.
