Pensioners urged to 'claim their cash'
Pensioners around the country have been urged by both the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and the Age Concern Charity to claim the cash benefits that they are entitled to.
According to Age Concern, there are millions of elderly Britons missing out on pension credits they could be claiming and as a result many people are struggling financially more than they have to.
By claiming the relevant credits, many people are able to dramatically improve their quality of life, the DWP insists
With this in mind, pensions minister Mike O'Brien has urged families to encourage their own elderly relatives to find out whether or not they are entitled to receive extra financial help.
"Many older people wrongly think pension credit is not meant for them and so miss out on useful extra cash as well as help with heating, housing or council tax costs," Mr O'Brien said.
The DWP recently warned that many young people in the UK are not saving for retirement regularly enough to expect to be financially comfortable in later life.
