Jobseekers in the UK are no longer prioritising pensions when assessing potential employers, it has been claimed.
According to Gerwyn Davies, public policy advisor at the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, said that as opportunities in the jobs market dry up, candidates are simply looking for opportunities.
He commented: "[Pensions] were [a deciding factor] years ago when you had a choice between jobs and you looked at the variety. Now, with the number of jobs drying up, people are looking at the opportunity for job applicants."
Recently, Halifax revealed that more than half (52 per cent) of the UK population are not currently paying into a pension scheme.
Responding to the figures, managing director of Halifax Financial Services Karen Crowshaw said that consumers should make contributing to retirement savings a priority in the new year, adding that by making a few small changes now consumers stand to make considerable gains in the future.
