Prospective pensioners urged to 'face financial challenges'
Prospective pensioners in the UK have been urged to face up to the financial challenges ahead of them.
Alliance & Leicester has revealed that thousands of Britons aged over 50 have run a marathon but many are struggling in their efforts to save for retirement.
There are plenty of straightforward strategies that can help pre-retired consumers improve their finances and they will be much easier than running a marathon, according to the banking group.
"Today's over 50s don't see age as a barrier to achieving their goals," said Emma Walkley, current account manager at Alliance & Leicester.
"With people living longer, more and more over 50s are fit and active well into the later stages of life," she added ahead of this weekend's London Marathon.
The new tax-year began earlier this month and a recent report from Selftrade suggested that many people have resolved to improve their retirement saving efforts over the coming 12 months.
