Report published on pensions governance
The Pensions Regulator has announced the results of its first survey on pension governance, in order to report on and improve the management of pension schemes.
Trustees in the main believe they are performing well, though a significant minority of pension schemes are deficient in some vital areas, the report found.
Other key discoveries of the survey were that larger schemes are generally better governed than smaller ones and that there is a strong link between governance, training and risk management.
Tony Hobman, chief executive of the Pensions Regulator, said: "We have carried out a lot of work on helping to improve the way pension schemes are run but it is clear from this survey that we must not take our foot off the pedal.
"While the survey showed that many schemes are well governed it identified areas where we need to maintain our efforts to help schemes and their trustees plug the gaps in important areas of good practice."
The survey follows the government's recent publication of the updated version of its Registered Pension Schemes Manual.
