Britons who have benefited from increasing house prices and have adequately saved for their retirement are looking to take advantage of choosing their own working habits in their later years, it has been reported.
Financial services group Friends Provident reports that a rising number of baby boomers are opting to work as they please, with 24 per cent stating they have the freedom to do so.
An additional 22 per cent of older Britons stated that they enjoyed work for the social contact offered, without any of the stress of their younger years.
Dr Peter Marsh, author of the report at the Social Issues Research Centre, said: ""Without the financial pressures of supporting a family or the competitive stress of forging a career, employment takes on a differing meaning."
He added that baby boomers have in fact attained the balance of work and life that many younger Britons seek.
Last month, pensions specialist NFY Mutual reported that income from pensions premiums had risen by 45 per cent since the A Day reforms introduced last year, with this rise being a result of increased contributions, rather than an increase in the numbers of those saving.
