Some 56 per cent of men and 54 per cent of women are keen to move abroad when they stop work, according to new research from Scottish Widows, which suggests one of the reasons people are saving for retirement.
In total, more than a third of Britons would consider moving abroad in retirement, the life, pensions and investment provider indicates.
The survey also finds that 60 per cent of Londoners are "likely or very likely" to retire abroad, while those who live in the rest of the southern England are the most content to draw on their nest egg savings and stay where they are.
Highlighting the importance of pensions, Scottish Widows customer and brand marketing director Mike Hoban said: "Whatever your age, the need to plan your retirement and to understand the options available to you regarding your personal and occupational pension schemes and investments, becomes increasingly important."
Following James Purnell's appointment as pensions minister last week, Scottish Life warned that a lack of continuity in this government department could have an effect on the delivery of pensions reform in the long run.
