Retirees 'splashing out on holidays and cosmetic surgery'

Despite the well-publicised financial problems being seen in the UK currently, Britons are refusing to let practical concerns get in the way of their plans for retirement.

This is according to a survey conducted for MGM Advantage, which found that 42 per cent of consumers polled intend to use their retirement savings to take more holidays after giving up work.

And an adventurous 24 per cent reported a desire to travel the world in their post-work years.

Meanwhile, the research also discovered that one in 30 women polled intend to use some of the cash they have saved for retirement on cosmetic surgery.

MGM Advantage went on to advise consumers with lofty aspirations for their later years to seek financial advice in order to avoid having to downsize or go back to work.

Indeed, research conducted recently by GE Money and MoneyBasics.co.uk found that only 27 per cent of consumers polled reported confidence that their pensions would be able to see them through their retirement years.
