Women advised to think of the future

British women have been advised to consider their financial futures more carefully than research suggests is currently the case.

Following the London premiere of the Sex and the City movie, Friends Provident has warned that many thousands of British women aged between 25 and 45 are not saving for retirement as effectively as they should be.

In fact, research from the financial services firm has found that a third of women in this age bracket living in London own 30 pairs of shoes but less than half are on the property ladder.

Additionally, the south-east of England was found to be an area where the most women are aiming to resolve their financial problems by marrying a rich man, in the same manner as Charlotte from the film.

Christine O'Grady, senior retail media relations executive at Friends Provident, said:
"The UK is full of women living the Sex and the City lifestyle, yet many of them are doing so by gambling with the future."

Almost 80 per cent of people responding to a recent Birmingham Midshires survey said that they had put some money aside during the past three months.
